TOPS DayAt the end of each school year, there is a special day to celebrate the achievements of TOPS students, say farewell to the graduating class and welcome the new generation; all while having as much fun as possible. The TOPS day events consist of an afternoon of fun and games where the grades challenge each other in classic contests such as tug of war, water balloon toss, pie eating and 15 legged race (it's possible!). However, the highlight of the afternoon is the legendary water fight where you can settle classroom skirmishes out on the battlefield! TOPS night is designed to celebrate what it is like to be part of the TOPS family. A large portion of the evening is TOPS students showcasing their musical or dancing abilities (some of these acts are truly spectacular, especially considering these are math and science students!). The night is topped off with heartfelt speeches from Mr. McMaster, Mr. Hussey, and Mr. van Bemmel, looking back on the wonderful 4 years of the grade 12s and wishing them the best of luck in the future. At the end, the grade 12 students are called onstage for a ceremonial TOPS Group Hug.
An amusing aspect of TOPS night is the videos made by every grade which bid the grade 12s goodbye. Throughout the years, there is an observed trend in the quality and originality of the grades. The videos of 2008 were no exception. Grade 9s were vintage sweet and funny, the grade 10s pulled the epitome of non-sequitur while the grade 11s video had us reaching for tissues.
"We worked, laughed, cried, and even grew together... We are nothing less than a family." - TOPS Student, 2005
